My Very First Amigurumi

My very first amigurumi came from the book, Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet by Anna Paula Rimoli. Here is the link to her blog. I made the boy and girl elephant and loved it!
This one is the boy (obviously)...
His name is Maxamilliano.
Try saying that 10 times fast :)
Made this lovely elephant amigurumi in late 2008 I believe.

I changed the face because I didn't have the eyes and love altering patterns anyways :)

After I finished making it I showed my brother Michael and he told me that it could have come straight from a manga comic. Ahhh...gotta love my little brother.
He is very photogenic. No?
More crochet projects to come as well as a recap of the marvelous Renegade Craft Fair in Austin!!!! Toooooo goooooood for words, but in the mean time check out my sister's post about the experience.
Sweet Dreams!
xoxo, Callie

Daily Doodle

Today I spent doing lots of homework and in order to offset that I must draw! It's good for me you know, really relaxing and fun. ER..did I say fun? haha. I mean helps me concentrate and focus on my home work..At least that's what I told myself today when I took some time to doodle this silly little rat guy, which my mom dubbed as Ratapuss and thus it is his name. He's just a funny little guy with no purpose other than to beg for tiny morsels!

Poodle Love

Poodles have been on my mind recently... I have been drawing them and even crocheting them! This is the result of my current obsession: a pattern! I found this lovely yarn in the sale section of a local yarn shop called the Yarn Barn and just knew when I held its cotton candy pinkness in my hand that a poodle was on the way! I am rather pleased with the result, especially with the pom poms...:) I am going to put the pattern on my etsy shop soon just have some final tweaking here and there.

Misako Mimoko on Etsy

Misako Mimoko makes the sweetest dolls! I love her little detailed stitches on the face and how she uses so many different fabrics together. Each of her dolls shows such personality and character. All in all they are playful and oh so wonderful! She just recently updated her shop with little friendly ghosts which are so lovely.
Feel free to visit her etsy store, or blog.
Also an article was written about her in the storque, etsy's blog, if you would like to read it click here.

Little Hedgehog Print

This is another new print I just added to the shop! This little hedgehog is one of my favorite's that I have done in a long time... I love his little dreamy look.
As for the inchworm...when I was little I was literally obsessed with inchworms and caterpillars. I would hunt them out and love the feel of them crawling on my skin. I wanted to be the size of them and explore the inner workings of trees and see how tall grass would look at that size. I would fill pages of drawings with them and even once had an inchworm inspired cake. This little inchworm is much like the ones I used to imagine with his outrageous little boots and rainbow colored body, he almost seems to walk out of my childhood dreams.
The print measures 8 1/2 by 11 inches with a small white border for framing.
Drawing was done in black ink and then colored in with colored pencils.

Handmade Nation Screening

Today my mom and I went up to Austin to see the Handmade Nation Screening in the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. There was a craft show going on outside the theatre and there were many artists there that I loved. Crafty is Cool from etsy was giving away free patterns ( I picked up the mushroom one and my mom got the heart). I love getting free things and this show was great for that!! I got not one but two bags, one with a red thimble, and one with the craftzine emblem as well as several pins.

The author, Faythe Levine, gladly signed my book, and after walking around the fair I sure was glad to go inside the air conditioned theatre. The documentary was great, it was wonderful to see some of my favorite artists talk about their take on the indie craft scene. If you get the chance I would totally recommend seeing this! I was glad we bought our tickets early because they sold out both showings while we were standing there waiting to get in to the show. After we saw the show we went to a few of our favorite shops in Austin. Uncommon Objects is where I got my little dashing squirrel, the man who rang me up called it 'strange' (which only made me love it all the more...) as well as a few old photographs and an old childrens book. I went across the street to Hill Country Weavers and got this splendid shocking green merino yarn that is oh so soft! I loved the whole day so much, it was just one pleasure after another. I got to spend some wonderful time with my mom and enjoyed the day, even if it was a little hot...:)

Vinnie Puh

This is another of my favorite Russian cartoons, the lovable Vinnie Puh (or their version of our Winnie the Pooh). Even though I have no idea what is being said it is a pleasure to watch. I love the art so much! Feel free to watch and enjoy!
