I just got these vintage photographs/ephemera today and just love them! There is something quite special looking into other people's life through the camera. I love looks on their faces of utmost glee and how they are dress. I added in the one of the lady knitting because I love her look of concentration. Ah sweet nostalgia...

I was going through some of my old books from my childhood and found this really sweet book called, Cook-A-Doodle-Doo! by: Janet Stevens and Susans Stevens Crummel. I saw a strawberry shortcake recipe in the back and decided to give it a try! The recipe is as follows:
Great-Granny's Magnificent Strawberry Shortcake
2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1 egg beaten
2/3 cup milk
3-4 cups strawberries sliced
1 cup whipping cream, whipped
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Sift flour, then sift together dry ingredients. Cut in butter until mixutre resembles coarse crumbs. Add egg and milk, stirring by hand just enough to moisten. Spread dough in greased 8 x 1/2-inch round pan; cool on rack 5 minutes. Split into two layers; lift top off carefully. Alternate layers of cake, whipped cream, and strawberries, ending with strawberries on top.

I made this fake deer head recently out of two old shirts I recycled. I don't usually like pale colors but somehow when I was holding the material, I got the idea for this right away. It was so much fun to make but by the end my hands were hurting from sewing all the details! I just love it and it now hangs up on my wall.
